Acorn Renewable Energy Co-op

Local Energy for a Sustainable Future

Announcing the Bristol Community Solar Project

Have you wanted to get the electricity for your home or business from the sun, but don’t have a roof or yard that would allow you to do that?  For example, your roof is facing the wrong way, or is shaded by tall trees. Or your yard is too small. Or maybe you live in a condo, or rent an apartment?  Whatever the problem, the Acorn Renewable Energy Co-op of Middlebury has a solution for you: Community Solar.

The Co-op is offering shares in the Bristol Community Solar project to any Vermont resident who has an electric meter in the Green Mountain Power (GMP) service territory, and who is an Acorn Energy Co-op member (or becomes one). You don't need to live in Bristol, and regardless of the Vermont town or city you live in, you qualify to participate and start saving money on your electric bill.

We currently have commitments for nearly all remaining units, and the project is close to being sold out. We will continue to accept deposits until we reach 85%; after that, deposits will be put on a waiting list in case any investors do not follow through with the purchase of their units.

If you’d like to learn more, start by checking your GMP bill to find out how many kWh's of electricity you use for one year (or give GMP a call at 1-888-835-4672 to get that figure). Then, we can provide you with an estimate of the cost and savings to expect from this project by contacting us at

If you would like to see more detailed financial information for participating, it’s available here.

If you would like to join an online Zoom educational event, there are meetings scheduled for:

  • Thursday, August 12 at 7 p.m. special Q&A session for all investors

If you would like to attend a meeting, please contact our coordinator Mary Mester, at

If you need help calculating how many units to invest in, or have any other questions, contact Mary at

Please include your full name, address, email and phone number.

Acorn Energy and CEAC Team Up to Create LiveGreenVT, Champlain Valley Climate and Energy Guide

Acorn Renewable Energy Co-op and the Climate Economy Action Center of Addison County (CEAC) have developed an online guide offering free listings to businesses and organizations doing work related to climate and renewable energy in our region. A digital version of the guide was launched in September, 2020, followed by a printed version sometime in the foreseeable future. There is no charge for a basic listing in the guide.
